A 2-year psychotherapy course, 100 hours of workshops and theory, building the confidence and depth to use CAT as a structured therapy approach.
Although this is an intensive training program, it’s not your standard ‘chalk and talk’ training.
Our learning materials are flexible and attuned to your needs, designed by experienced CAT practitioners, supervisors and expert trainers. We understand that everyone has a preferred way of learning, and there’s no ‘one size fits all’… just as there’s no one size fits all when it comes to psychotherapy itself.
Need to review some material? Watch the video module again.
Prefer a personal challenge? Take the quiz and aim for full marks.
Want to discuss your understanding? Jump into a peer-support group.
Prefer to discuss readings and lectures? Engage in our online groups.

And if that’s not enough, learn through quizzes and crosswords.

The 2-year training goes much further than CAT Skills. It focuses not only on formulating relational patterns, but on working with those patterns over time to support meaningful change. You’ll learn how to:
Collaboratively develop and refine CAT reformulations with the person you’re working with.
Support people to recognise their relational patterns, in daily life and within the therapeutic relationship.
Use the therapeutic relationship to notice, reflect on and gently interrupt repeating patterns.
Support people to experiment with new ways of responding that better meet their needs.
Integrate CAT with your existing therapeutic skills and the setting in which you work.
Adapt CAT work so it fits the person’s goals, context and target problem.
Where the CAT Skills course helps you understand and map relational patterns, Practitioner Training focuses on working with those patterns over time, supporting change that reduces distress and improves relationships. The training includes practice-based learning, case discussion, mapping workshops and supervision.
Once completed, you can apply for ANZACAT accreditation in CAT.
Already a CAT-qualified practitioner? We also offer CAT supervisor training, so you can offer others a supportive pathway to becoming confident in CAT.
