About Course

Discover the foundations of Cognitive Analytic Therapy in this engaging one-day, in-person workshoip. Learn how early relationships shape how we relate to ourelves and others, and explore CAT’s practical formulation tools that can be applied immediately in clinical practice.

What is Cognitive Analytic Therapy?

CAT is a collaborative and time-limited form of psychotherapy that integrates cognitive and analytic concepts within a deeply relational context. CAT encourages an exploration of relational patterns in partnership, examining how past relationships continue to impact daily life, as well as identifying opportunities for change. This approach is particularly relevant for individuals who are described as experiencing “complexity” (Hallam, 2021).

During this practical introductory day, you will:

  • Learn how early relational experiences influence relationship patterns.
  • Collaborate using a CAT relational framework.
  • Recognise and map recurring or “stuck” patterns with people.
  • Identify “exits” — new responses to facilitate change.
